It’s been 7 years because Disney Cruise Line debuted a new ship. Back then, it was the 4,000- traveler Disney Dream, and the ship– together with fleetmates Disney Magic, Disney Wonder and Disney Dream– continues to make magic on each and every sailing. However, lastly, DCL has a new slate of ships in the works and it really is something to be excited about. Here’s everything we understand up until now about Disney’s next trio of ships.

In This Post

The 3 new ships are being developed at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany. All three become part of what the line is calling its Triton class. Melted gas (a more environmentally friendly fuel) will power these 140,000- gross-ton ships that are slightly bigger than Disney Dream and Disney Dream. However like those predecessors, Triton ships will also accommodate 4,000 guests in 1,250 staterooms and suites.

The very first ship sets sail in 2022

At its August D23 Exposition in Anaheim, California, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Bob Chapek announced the name of the very first ship set to cruise in the Triton series: Disney Dream. Meyer Werft will provide the ship in late 2021, and the inaugural cruising is slated for January 2022.

Scant details about the ship’s design have actually been launched but we understand the atrium will be a stunner at three stories and similar to “Beauty and the Monster.”

Disney Desire gives a nod to woman power

In a nod to wise and powerful women and ladies all over, Rapunzel will be the very first female character to grace the stern of a Disney Cruise Line ship. “Perky, wise, curious and above all, daring, Rapunzel embodies the wish and desire to see and experience the world,” according to DCL. (Keep in mind, as of 2019, Minnie Mouse has also now signed up with Mickey with the rank of Captain on the ship!)

Lighthouse Point to be a 2nd Bahamas port of call

Likewise in the works from Disney is a 2nd private-island port of call in the Bahamas. Matching Disney’s Castaway Cay will be Lighthouse Point on the island of Eleuthera. Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde, who created much of Disney’s Animal Kingdom amusement park and Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii, is visiting the Bahamas and meeting with local artists to find out about the culture. The research will notify his design aesthetic for the brand-new Disney port of call.

Disney bought the independently owned Lighthouse Point early in 2019 and signed an arrangement with the Bahamian government that “guides the responsible and sustainable method the website will be established.” In fact, Disney prepares to develop less than 20%of the residential or commercial property and, through the Disney Preservation Fund, donated $13 million to marine conservation programs worldwide– consisting of some in the Bahamas.

An environmental impact assessment will be completed and an environmental management strategy submitted to the government of the Bahamas in the near future. The general public will have a chance to weigh in on the plan prior to building starts. Disney is taking a look at breaking ground in 2020 with the island opening to tourists at the end of 2022 or the start of 2023.

Where will Disney Desire sail?

We just do not know the answer yet. Nevertheless, with the impending building of Lighthouse Point, it’s most likely that a minimum of some schedules will fixate the Bahamas and other parts of the Caribbean a minimum of during parts of the year.

When will reservations open?

According to Disney, appointments for Disney Desire will open in late2020 While it’s often finest to schedule a Disney cruise as quickly as it goes on sale for the very best rates and schedule, that’s going to be specifically real with the most recent ship.

Bottom line

Disney is keeping many of the details about Disney Wish and the entire Triton class of ships under wraps in the meantime. However, TPG will keep you posted as we discover more. Is your family eagerly anticipating Disney Dream as much as we are?
