German line AIDA Cruises will not restart operations this week. And the cancellation of 2 of its August sailings isn’t due to the 10 AIDA cruise team members who checked positive for COVID-19 Instead, the cruise line’s reboot is being held up by its flag state: Italy.

” Contrary to our expectations, the final formal approval for the start of the short trips from August 5, 2020 by our flag state Italy is still pending,” AIDA stated in a statement provided by Roger Frizzell, representative for Carnival Corp., AIDA’s moms and dad company.

Cruise lines are required to follow the assistance of their flag state — which is the governing body under which the ship is signed up and certified. They are likewise needed to follow the International Maritime Company and the rules and regulations of each ship’s origin area and destination location( s).

The Majority Of AIDA’s 13 ship fleet is flagged in Italy.

Because they haven’t gotten Italy’s approval to start sailing, the line’s set up itineraries on AIDAperla and AIDAmar departing on Aug. 5 and Aug. 12, respectively, need to be canceled.

The cruise line revealed early last month that 3 of its ships would resume operations in August– ending a coronavirus pandemic-induced hiatus that started in March– with new health and hygiene procedures and without port calls.

” We quite regret this delay. We would have enjoyed to welcome our guests back on board,” the line stated. “We presume that we will get the last formal approval by the flag state Italy in a prompt way.”

All passengers scheduled to cruise on AIDAperla and AIDAmar will be immediately reimbursed for what they have currently paid and will get a future cruise credit equal to 50%of their ticket rate to be utilized in the future.

AIDAblu’s Aug. 16 cruising from Kiel, Germany, has not been canceled.
