A United StatesNavy warship took weapons believed to be of Iranian” design and manufacture”, including150 anti-tank directed missiles and three Iranian surface-to-air missiles, the United States
armed force said on Thursday.
In a declaration, the armed force said the guided-missile cruiser Normandy boarded a dhow, a standard cruising vessel, in the Arabian Sea on Sunday.
” The weapons took include150′ Dehlavieh’ anti-tank assisted rockets( ATGM), which are Iranian-manufactured copies of Russian Kornet ATGMs,” the statement stated.
” Other weapons components seized aboard the dhow were of Iranian design and manufacture and consisted of 3 Iranian surface-to-air missiles,” it stated.
Iran did not instantly discuss the US military’s statement.
The armed force said that the weapons seized on Sunday were “identical” to those taken by another US warship in November.
Last year, the guided-missile destroyer Forrest Sherman took advanced rocket parts thought to be linked to Iran from a boat it had actually dropped in the Arabian Sea.
Under a United Nations resolution, Tehran is prohibited from supplying, offering or transferring weapons outside the country unless approved by the Security Council. A separate UN resolution on Yemen prohibits the supply of weapons to Houthi leaders.
The Houthis have actually constructed their arsenal using regional manufacturing, foreign expertise and parts smuggled in from Iran, their ally, and somewhere else. The dispute in Yemen is seen in the area as a proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
